Dear friend
My name is Pam Skelton. I began volunteering for Burma Campaign UK shortly after the monks' protest in Burma in 2007. Everyday there is news of human rights abuses in Burma, recently concerning the Rohingya.
On May 11th I am walking 60km across the South Downs to raise funds and awareness for Burma Campaign UK with my friend Lesley Mair, who also volunteers every week at Burma Campaign UK.
In the last two years, more than 250,000 people have fled their homes in Burma as a result of conflict and human rights abuses.
The government in Burma spends at least five times more on the military than on healthcare.
Please sponsor us so that we can push for an end to human rights abuses in Burma.
My father, who left Burma and settled in London in the late 1930s, spoke very little about his homeland but always longed to return there.
I am walking 60 kilometres because it is something practical that I can do to raise funds for an organisation that promotes human rights, democracy and development in Burma.
It is a real challenge because I am 60 years old and my longest walk is usually to the nearest bus stop!
It is vital that we keep up the pressure and continue our campaign for real democracy and guaranteed human rights in Burma. To do this, we urgently need your help.
Please sponsor our walk here:
Thank you for your support. Without it we could not work for vulnerable people in Burma who really need our help.
Pam and Leslie
